Visit Isle of Wight Ghost Trail app re-appears!

A new collaboration with Paramount Pictures UK, sees Visit Isle of     Wight’s popular free to download Isle of Fright Ghost Trail app  (iOS/Android) re-launched this Autumn.

The app has been updated as part of promotions to celebrate the forthcoming ‘Rings’, a new chapter in the beloved RING horror franchise, written by David Loucka and Jacob Estes and Akiva Goldsman, directed by F. Javier Gutierrez.

The app returns with the popular features of spooky Isle of Wight tales and the fun ‘ghost bombing’ element that allows users to apply ghostly filters over their photos for sharing on social media.

In a twist on the thirteen ‘cold spots’ (Isle of Wight locations with paranormal associations), this year the app has been updated to include a competition to win ‘Rings’ merchandise from Paramount Pictures UK.

To enter the competition, app users are encouraged to physically travel to areas across the Isle of Wight and record their visits using the app to hidden ‘dark sites’. Users need to visit a certain number of dark sites to unlock entrance to the competition page. But beware the “witching hour” when creatures of the night are thought to appear and be at their most powerful!

Users of the app who are not on the Isle of Wight are able to listen to the audio of the ghost stories narrated by Isle of Wight spirit guide Marc Tuckey. They can also unlock entrance to the competition page via an in app quiz.

David Thornton CEO of Visit Isle of Wight says “I’m thrilled (literally) to see the Isle of Fright Ghost Trail app back in 2016. It offers a great opportunity for visitors to access different areas of the Island as well as being a creative, fun way of providing haunting holiday memories. By working with Paramount Pictures UK and our Isle of Wight partners, we’re able to showcase Paramount’s new movie alongside the Isle of Wight”.

The app will be available to download from mid-October through to the end of November 2016.

App-y Halloween, on the Isle of Wight

Visitors to the Isle of Wight this autumn are being invited to “step into the ghost dimension” – for a limited period only (and only “if they dare”).

Timed to coincide with Halloween, and when things have a habit of going bump in the night, the Isle of Wight’s new app will be exclusively available to download during October and November only.

The Isle of Fright Ghost Trail is based on one of the world’s most haunted islands, and features free audio ghost stories, which can be downloaded onto iPhones, tablets and androids to give ghost-busting visitors the opportunity to follow a self-guided tour of 13 “cold spots” that have been found to exist on the Isle of Wight.

Offering a spooky insight into some of the Island’s many local myths and legends, it is presented by paranormal expert Marc Tuckey – and has been created in association with Paramount Pictures UK to promote the Halloween release, on October 21, of Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension.

The app also allows its users to take photographs and use a special “ghost photo bombing” function to create some especially haunting images.  It also contains information about how to reach the Isle of Wight, and links to other tourism products on the Island.

Anyone keen to plan their visit will also be interested to know that theapp will be available to download free of charge from the beginning of October at www.visitisleofwight.co.uk/ghost-trail, or on Google Play or via the Apple Store.

While the ghost trail has been designed primarily for Halloween thrill seekers, its focus on local folklore and genuine ghost stories means that it is also likely to appeal to visitors who might like to combine it with one or more of the other autumn activities taking place on the Island this autumn – including Electric Woods Festival of Light at Robin Hill.

Other October half-term events on the Isle of Wight will include the Blackgang Chine Illuminations; Spooky Castle at Carisbrooke Castle; Wizard Week on the Isle of Wight Steam Railway; and a range of activities at The Needles Landmark Attraction.

The previously unseen Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension (www.paranormalmovie.co.uk) – the terrifying conclusion to the Paranormal Activity films – will appear in cinemas everywhere from October 21.  It is directed by Gregory Plotkin and produced by Jason Blum and Oren Peli.
