The Isle of Wight is a Finalist in the Family Traveller Awards 2017

The Isle of Wight has been announced as a finalist in this year’s annual Family Traveller Awards in the “Best UK region for Families” category.

The public will have until 20th October 2017 to vote for the Island and every vote will automatically be entered into a prize draw to win a holiday for a family of four to Malta, worth £4,000. The winners for each category will be decided on by the expert judging panel and the responses from the public, with the winners being announced by a celebrity host at a glamourous celebration in London this November.

Now in its third year, The Family Traveller Awards are dedicated to finding the best of the best in family travel and celebrating brands that work hard to make family holidays special.

New for the 2017 Awards is the Reader’s Choice Awards – where the winners will be selected based solely on the majority public vote, with no input from the judging panel. Kids will call the shots in the ‘Best UK Days Out for Families category’, while mum and dad can have their say on what they think is the ‘Best UK Region’ and the ‘Best UK City Break’ for families.

Vist Isle of Wight is the Destination Management Organisation for the Isle of Wight and work in partnership with Visit England, Visit Britain, Tourism South East and other tourism bodies to promote the Island to UK mainland and overseas audiences. Their top-ranking website (www.visitisleofwight.co.uk) receives over 2.4million visitors a year.

In 2015, the Isle of Wight was Highly Commended for “Best Domestic Destination for Families” while Wightlink were Highly Commended in the “Best Family Ferry Operator” category.   Last year, the Isle of Wight Festival won in the “Best Family Festival” category.

Included in the Family Traveller Awards finals this year are the Isle of Wight in the Best UK region for Families category, Wigwam (which has a location at Tapnell Farm) in the Best Holiday Rental category, Carisbrooke Castle (English Heritage) in the Best UK Day Out category, Kingswood Family Adventure, (which has a location in Bembridge) in the Best Activity Specialist category and the Isle of Wight Festival in the Best Family Festival category.

David Thornton, CEO, Visit Isle of Wight said: “The Family Traveller Awards give consumers the opportunity to reward travel and tourism enterprises for outstanding performance and it’s wonderful to see the Island and so many of its tourism businesses in the running for these prestigious awards.

“We’re up against some big industry names, so please do spread the word and encourage everyone you know to vote for the Isle of Wight and circulate the message “Pure Island Happiness” is what the whole world needs right now”.

Last year, the awards were met with huge support from the travel industry and public, with over 27,000 public votes received. This year there are 21 different categories, up from 18 in 2016, ranging from Best European Hotel for Families, to Best Family Festival and Best Activity Specialist for Families.

Cirque De La Quirk announces their line up at the Isle of Wight Festival 2017

Cirque De La Quirk returns to the Isle of Wight Festival 2017 with a new and exciting festival experience including headline performances from Stanton WarriorsKrafty Kuts, Dub Pistols and Sam and The Womp. Festival goers will have the chance to step into a worry free and nonsensical world with Previous year’s have including live body painting, dance offs and sock wrestling and 2017 promising to being bigger and better.

This year’s festival takes place 8th-11th June at Seaclose Park, headlined by Rod Stewart, Arcade Fire, David Guetta and Run DMC as well as performances from Bastille, Rag’n’Bone Man and The Kooks.

Cirque De La Quirk explain this year’s out of this world theme:

The whirlwind of Cirque de la Quirk will be back this year with a vengeance!!! Picking up where they left last year, the Cirque will be amping up the immersive festival experience.

Their world will plunge you into a community embracing style, individuality and rebellion. In this territory there are two factions. Will you be the eccentric aristocrat or the rowdy rebels?

Two Factions:–

The Nostalgias; steeped in etiquette and dressed to the nines, the closest thing to aristocracy that anyone could hope for. They enjoy their own company but due to their impulsiveness, their rash and emotive nature they can even rub each other up the wrong way, let alone the other side.

The Mechanicals are a very different animal. Where the Nostalgias shut themselves away with sofas and mustaches, the Mechanicals are curious schemers who reside in the wooded area. They were once the scientists, mathematicians and geniuses of this world but their time in the wasteland and endless need to solve everything that has gone wrong has had an effect. Their yearning for answers has shifted and their thirst for knowledge has been replaced by a thirst for anarchy.

The life loving population will try to make you sway from one to the other and when chosen you can pit your wits against others in a feast of games, puzzles and activities throughout the weekend. Fun for all ages, the music and performers will allow you the chance to try your hand at being a circus master or sock wrestling champion – put to the soundtrack of, squelchy beats with a bit of kick every evening!!

Which side will you choose – you’ll have to test your mettle to find out!!

Roll up Roll up! Cirque de la Quirk is returning to The Isle of Wight Festival with a BANG!

London warm up show announced for Friday 22nd April

Following on from the success of last year’s Cirque de la Quirk stage takeover, The Isle of Wight Festival today announces that Cirque is back for 2016 – and this time… for the whole weekend!

Over the weekend of 9th-12th June, festival-goers will get the chance to step into a worry free nonsensical world. From live body painting to strutting your stuff in their popular dance off, there is something for all ages, shapes and mental states at the Circus!

You’ll be able to experience the Backstage Creation Tent, aimed to relax and rest your ringing ears by hunkering down on bean bags and pillow pits or getting involved with colouring therapy, creative workshops and face painting. Head to the Wonky Races Tent to spice up the weekend with silly, challenging and competitive games, before heading to the pièce de résistance: The Main Stage! Compered by Cirque’s very own Jackie Jibbles and Madame Molly, Cirque de la Quirk will have musical treats to get everyone bouncing and dancing for the whole weekend. Electric Swing Circus, Dub Pistols, Benny Page, Far Too Loud and Freear (Slamboree DJ set) are just a few of the artists lined up to grace the Cirque, along with circus performers from the wonderful people at Forgotten Circus. There’ll be enough to make the most statuesque of tail feathers wiggle with verve and vigour!

Plus, to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday and Queen + Adam Lambert’s headlining slot on the Sunday, Cirque de la Quirk will be hosting a special tongue-in-cheek, very English (and slightly rowdy) tea party! Think bunting, chaps and moustaches with a dollop of electro swing beats provided by Cirque’s lovable favourites, Miles Metric and the Rumpsteppers!

Can’t wait ’til June? Well, a special warm up show has been announced! On Friday 22nd April at Mode in Ladbroke Grove, London, The Isle of Wight Festival will present ‘Cirque de la Quirk’s Warm Up Wiggle’. You are invited to get stuck into the music, life and festival spirit of the circus. Come and let your inner quirk shine through! THE WHO TO RETURN TO THE ISLE OF WIGHT FESTIVAL

BRITISH ROCK ICONS CONFIRMED TO HEADLINE – SATURDAY 11TH JUNE www.isleofwightfestival.com

ONLY UK FESTIVAL APPEARANCE OF 2016

———

RICHARD ASHCROFT CONFIRMED AS SPECIAL GUEST

———-

British rock icons The Who are heading back to Seaclose Park on the Isle of Wight for the fourth time in the band’s history to headline The Isle of Wight Festival, it was announced today.

Roger Daltrey, Pete Townshend and their live band, which includes Zak Starkey, Pino Palladino and Simon Townshend, will be bringing their globally successful Hits 50! tour to the island for their only UK festival performance of 2016 on Saturday 11th June, with a spectacular live show resplendent with hits including ‘Won’t Get Fooled Again’, ‘Baba O’Reilly’, ‘The Seeker’, ‘Pinball Wizard’, ‘Who Are You’ and ‘My Generation.’ The band first played The Isle of Wight Festival in 1969 and 1970 (the latter was immortalised in Murray Lerner’s well known ‘Message to Love’ documentary film), and then again in 2004 – the same year that David Bowie also headlined, his last ever UK live performance.

Richard Ashcroft is confirmed as special guest to The Who on the day, performing tracks from his new solo album ‘These People’.

Festival boss John Giddings says: “The Who are part of the fabric of The Isle of Wight Festival, and it’s great to welcome them back to the island as part of their ongoing 50th anniversary celebrations. We’re proud to have a line up of home-grown headliners to help celebrate our own 15th anniversary and ensure that this year delivers yet another unforgettable weekend of music.”

The Who and Richard Ashcroft join a ‘Best of British’ line up which includes headliners Queen + Adam Lambert, Stereophonics and Faithless, on what is the same weekend as the Queen’s 90th birthday.

The Who have sold over 100 million records since forming in 1964; they brought together four different personalities and in effect produced a musical hurricane.  Each of them was a pioneer. Wildman drummer Keith Moon beat his kit with a chaotic elegance; stoic bassist John Entwistle held down the center with the melodic virtuosity of a solo guitarist; raging intellectual Pete Townshend punctuated the epic universality of his songs with the windmill slamming of his fingers across his guitar strings; and Roger Daltrey roared above it all with an impossibly virile macho swagger. They exploded conventional rhythm and blues structures, challenged pop music conventions, and redefined what was possible on stage, in the recording studio, and on vinyl. Deep into their 50th year, the band is still going strong, winning rave reviews.

Richard Ashcroft is set to release his fourth solo album ‘These People’ in May, marking his first new album in six years. The BRIT and Ivor Novello winning artist was frontman of The Verve during the 90’s, producing hits such as ‘Bittersweet Symphony’ and ‘The Drugs Don’t Work’, before becoming a successful solo act in his own right – his first solo single ‘A Song For The Lovers’ peaked at No. 3 in the UK singles charts with the album ‘Alone With Everybody’ going to No. 1.

The Isle of Wight Festival takes place 9th-12th June at Seaclose Park, Newport.

Acoustic Isle gives those festival-goers and many others the chance to come back and enjoy the “unplugged” ambience of the Isle of Wight from the relaxed comfort of a bar stool.  The Island has some fabulous places to stay: a night in Keats Cottage in Shanklin throughout Acoustic Isle, for example, costs £85 per room (if booked directly).  Return car ferry crossing, meanwhile, starts from £64.50 (for two passengers): check out theRed Funnel and Wight Link websites for full details.

In this way they can join in the festival vibe throughout the summer. Last year festival orgainsers, famous attendees and acts all joined in the hashtag and this is expected to grow in 2015.

The 2014 campaign, run in collaboration with Visit Isle of Wight, resulted in over 2000 competition entries and a 155% increase in Wightlink’s social followers for during the campaign. The winner, Hannah Wilcox who took a picture during the Biffy Clyro set at the Isle of Wight Festival, is returning in 2015 with her Access all Festivals Pass. Wightlink – Part of Island Life

Wightlink is the leading cross-Solent ferry operator carrying almost five million holidaymakers and Islanders across the Solent to the Isle of Wight every year. Nine ferries on three routes provide Island-wide coverage and complete 48,000 sailings a year giving Islanders an easy and frequent service to the mainland, and tourists an accessible way to enjoy a taste of Island life

You can step off the train from London, hop on a Wightlink catamaran and be on the Island in just 22 minutes, the car ferries take around 40 minutes from Portsmouth and Lymington. On board, passengers and drivers alike can relax in the lounges and enjoy some refreshments before arriving on the Island to enjoy the range of attractions, events and experiences that make the Isle of Wight a leading destination for tourists.

The opening of the Hindhead Tunnel in Surrey has cut journey times to Portsmouth from Greater London. By contrast, Wightlink’s port at Lymington is reached by an attractive drive through the scenic New Forest.

Thursday 21st May 2015: In what is a ‘first’ for the first major festival of the summer, The Isle of Wight Festival today announces details of six incredible YouTube artists who will perform exclusive live sets over the weekend of 11-14 June.

DanielJ, Alice Olivia, Myth City, Only1Noah, Toby Randall and Hannah Trigwell are an exciting addition to this year’s line up, joining the likes of Fleetwood Mac, Blur, The Prodigy, The Black Keys, Paolo Nutini, Pharrell Williams, James Bay, The Charlatans and Jessie Ware.

The introduction of YouTube artists to The Isle of Wight Festival 2015 marks a first for both the festival and the video-sharing platform, and the first time YouTube artists have done festival performances in this manner. These performances will take place on the Platform One stage, which gives a platform for young unsigned talent at The Isle of Wight Festival each year. Platform One is a not for profit, independent music college based on the island.

Isle of Wight Festival organiser John Giddings: “I’m really pleased to be welcoming YouTube artists to this year’s Isle of Wight Festival! We are committed to putting on new and emerging artists each year, and with so much amazing talent on YouTube it made total sense to book some of the best acts that you can currently discover on the site.”

Candice Morrissey, Head of YouTube Music Partnerships EMEA:

“It’s amazing to see these brilliant homegrown YouTube artists join The Isle of Wight Festival line-up this year, and testament to their popularity and talent. We’ve no doubt they will bring a different dimension to the festival through their unique sounds and styles – and rock out with the best of the performers!”
